Control of refrigerant injection in dry expansion evaporators
The sensor enables the operation of a refrigeration system as a DX system (Direct Expansion).
The advantage of the sensor principle is a lower refrigerant charge in the system compared with flooded evaporators. A reduction in refrigerant charge by a factor of 30-50 in the evaporator, compared with liquid overfeed or gravity flooded feed, may be anticipated. System charges may be reduced by a factor of 3 compared with liquid overfeed. From a technological design perspective, the sensor technology is also energy efficient, since it is not affected by water in the refrigerant (for ammonia-based systems), nor does it generate any kind of pressure drop in the system.
