Vapor Quality Sensors

For decades, evaporator control has been based on indirect measurements.

Superheat calculations, circulation ratios and theoretical models have been used to estimate what is happening inside the evaporator. The problem is simple:

Estimates are not measurements.

If you want to optimize performance, reduce energy consumption and protect your compressor, you need to know exactly how much liquid leaves the evaporator—not what a calculation suggests.

That is exactly what the Vapor Quality Sensor measures.

Measure What Actually Matters

The Vapor Quality Sensor continuously measures the liquid content in the gas stream leaving the evaporator.

Instead of relying on indirect indicators, the sensor provides direct information about the evaporation process itself. This gives the control system immediate feedback and enables faster, more accurate adjustments.

The result is improved efficiency, greater stability and better utilization of the evaporator surface.

Improve Performance in Liquid Overfeed Systems

In pump-circulated systems, more liquid does not automatically mean better performance.

Overfilling an evaporator reduces heat transfer efficiency and increases pumping energy. Many systems operate with unnecessarily high circulation ratios simply because operators lack accurate information about liquid carryover.

The Vapor Quality Sensor provides direct measurement of liquid content at the evaporator outlet, allowing circulation ratios to be optimized based on actual operating conditions.

In practice, this can reduce energy consumption by at least 20% while simultaneously improving cooling capacity.

 

The Vapor Quality Sensor changes the control philosophy.

By measuring vapor quality directly, the sensor enables a significantly faster control loop and allows superheat levels to be reduced to less than 1 K without compromising operations.

The outcome is straightforward:

  • Higher evaporator efficiency
  • Lower compressor power consumption
  • More stable operation across varying loads

Energy savings can reach up to 20% at full load and as much as 50% during part-load operation.

Fast Installation. Minimal Disruption.

Improving system control should not require extensive downtime.

The sensor is installed directly at the evaporator outlet and can be mounted on both horizontal and vertical pipes. Its split design allows the electronic module to be replaced without evacuating the refrigeration system, simplifying both maintenance and diagnostics.

The sensor is available for pipe dimensions ranging from 6 mm to 300 mm, making it suitable for everything from small DX systems to large industrial refrigeration installations.

One Sensor. Multiple Functions.

The Vapor Quality Sensor does more than optimize evaporator performance.

It also serves as an effective compressor protection device.

By continuously monitoring liquid content in the suction line, the sensor can detect conditions that may lead to liquid slugging and provide early warnings before compressor damage occurs.

This provides an additional layer of protection while eliminating the need for separate measurement technologies.
